Sound Website Internet Marketing Practices

Sound Internet Marketing Practices You Can Use on Your Website

27 IM Rules
You can find many examples of products being marketed online but the way companies conduct their Internet marketing activities is not something you will want to copy. Many companies send out spam or post links all over the Internet. Instead, stick to doing sound internet marketing practices.

Your website is a very important tool so you have to be careful with it. A lot of people who are new to creating websites feel they need to add lots of color and graphics. A flashy website is not going to draw people in. While a very fancy and decorated store window will catch someone’s attention, with a website, the less flashy the better. You don’t need to get their attention anymore because they’re already on your site. What you need to do instead is keep visitors on your site.

You don’t need flash menus, videos, and animated displays on your site. If you really must have a flash menu, do so but keep the rest of the website simple and basic. Limit the graphics. One problem with having too many graphics is that it can increase your site’s loading time. Do you think people are going to wait minutes for your site to completely load?

Know that flash menus don’t work in all Internet browsers. Stick to simple. You want your visitors to be able to use your website quickly and easily. If your customers get frustrated with the problems they are having loading your website, they won’t stay.

Along those lines I had a website that had an unusually nice trendy design. It was a web2.0 type design and although great looking it took way too long to load. Several times over a few months I went to the site and virtually every time I did it took forever to load. I thought it was my hosting company that was the problem. However, I checked some of my other sites on that same hosting account and they loaded quite fast. That’s when I realized I was losing potential visitors. I quickly changed the theme (the site was a WordPress site) and experienced much faster load times and eventually more visitors.

The content on your website also needs to be just right. Having too much text in one place can make reading the information difficult. It is much better to break down text in manageable chunks or even place them in separate pages.

Your website also needs to be set up so customers can search for a specific item you sell. Your customers should be able to search your products by name, price, and what category the product is in. The more options they have, the better.

Check out successful sites within your industry and use these sites as your yardstick. What are they doing right that you aren’t? In terms of site design, how do they present their pages and their information? What color scheme are they using? What elements do they use? How do they present their products? You can take what works for them and apply it to your own website.
