Google Social Networking: An Alternative to other Social Networking Sites?

Social Networking: Orkut, by Google

If one thinks about the Internet probably the first thing that comes up is the word Google.

Google seems to have a hand in so many things on the internet. Although Google was not into social networking  they are now building a presence in the social networking arena as well.

Is it possible Google social networking will be the standard for social networking in the coming year or two? Since Google has become the standard for so many things Web associated, including search engines, PPC advertising, e-mail, calendar , web applications and even web documents.

We all are aware social networking websites are making a big mark around the world when it comes to the Internet. Just a few weeks ago, at best, the huge following of Twitter made world news several times.  Not the least of which was being the carrier of news from Iran from the frustrated citizens. They tweeted and the world listened as the other outside communications was censored from that embittered country.

The other big social networking websites like Facebook and MySpace are excellent places where people can connect to other people and even market their companies and reach new customers. There are millions of people using these social networking sites, and smart businesses are beginning to use them as well. Leveraging a social networking site to its fullest potential is a great way for a business to reach out to new markets and potential customers.

If you thought that the social networking thing may have reached its peak, Google social networking comes to the scene with a completely new project. Google has a social networking site of its own, which is known as Orkut. Orkut is appearing as a serious contender to other social networking websites.

Orkut already has gained serious popularity in Latin America and also Asia.  Now it’s beginning to make a splash in the United States as well. Like other Google ventures its social networking is likely to become a large presence online. Dominating the social networking market is one of the ways that this can be achieved.

Google wants their own piece social networking that rivals Twitter, MySpace and Facebook, which have been capitalizing on huge amounts of traffic. The following behind Orkut in China and Japan alone has tripled over the past year. They now have had over 11 million visitors in a single month.

Only time will tell when it comes to whether or not Google’s Orkut will become as big as the other social networking giants like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace in the United States. Google seems to know what they are doing. They have proven themselves to be extremely strong players in several very large markets.

Google probably needs to offer more than the other social networking sites. If they can they get in on the lucrative action that these other social networking already enjoy. If you haven’t tried Orkut, log into your Google account today and check it out. Having a Gmail or other Google account makes the process that much faster. So get online and start putting your profile together today for Google Social Networking. You’ll be one of the early adopters of what may become a powerful force in social networking.
